Australia’s preparation for the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games began with a Patty Mills buzzer-beater.

Australians beat Argentina 87-84 (20-21, 22-26, 20-12, 25-25) in an exhibition game in Las Vegas.

Just at the beginning of the last minute of the game, Scola made another 3-pointer and tied the game once more (84-84). After that, Mills missed a jumper, but the following 24 seconds weren't enough for Argentinians to make their response.

Then the Mills time came. With 2.5 seconds left, Mills inbounded the ball, got it back from Jock Landale, who was setting a screen and drained a game-winning shot.

At the beginning of the fourth quarter, teams were separated by only a point (65-64), but then Australians made a run.

Aron Baynes made a 3-pointer, Nick Kay added a lay-up, Patty Mills knocked another three, and with 5:55 to play, Australia got a 10-point lead (76-66).

Despite that, Argentina didn’t give up. Luis Scola got a triple, Patricio Garino made a successful jumper, while Facundo Campazzo scored from deep, and with 3:20 to go, the game was tied again (76-76). However, in the end, Australians took the victory.

Mills was a top scorer for a winning team ending up with 17 points (2/7 2PT, 4/9 3PT, 1/2 FT), 5 assists, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 turnovers.

Meanwhile, Scola was unstoppable for Argentina. The 41-year-old veteran scored 25 points (5/9 2PT, 4/9 3PT, 3/6 FT), got 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 3 turnovers.
