EuroLeague announced on Monday that Dimitris Giannakopoulos has been sanctioned with a fine of €70,000 for statements proven offensive to Euroleague Basketball competitions and its managing authorities.

Dimitris Giannakopoulos, who announced his resignation from the presidency of Panathinaikos OPAP Athens last June, made comments during a live broadcast on Instagram earlier last month. He claimed that EuroLeague and its CEO Jordi Bertomeu were "stealing money" and that it would be "proven soon".

It is not the first offense of such nature, as Giannakopoulos has expressed his dislike with Bertomeu and his work many times in the past. Giannakopoulos was fined for his outbursts on multiple occasions by the EuroLeague.
