Carlos Cabezas held a press conference at the Palacio de Deportes Martin Carpena, announcing his farewell to basketball at the age of 40.

The former Spanish international puts an end to a career full of success, having won the ACB League (2006), the Copa del Rey (2005) and the Korac Cup (2001) with Unicaja Malaga, where he spent 9 years of his long career. In 2007, he participated in his only Euroleague Final Four, held in Athens, with Unicaja coming in third. In addition, he won the gold medal with the Spanish National Team in the 2006 World Cup and the 2009 EuroBasket, among others.

Unicaja Malaga offered him the opportunity to retire wearing their jersey, so his last game will be with the team from Andalusia against Real Madrid in the Costa del Sol Tournament, next Friday. After that game, the number 10 will be hanging from the rafters of Martín Carpena, in honor of a player who embodies the living history of Unicaja Malaga and who has been the protagonist of the most successful era in the club's history.

Francis Alonso, who has worn this number last season, has gladly given up on his number so that it can be withdrawn in honor of Carlos Cabezas, and from next Friday onwards, he will be wearing number 13 on his back.
