The Los Angeles Lakers officially signed Rajon Rondo on August 31. The 35-year-old veteran was an essential addition after the departure of Dennis Schroder, who was the main point guard for the Lakers last season.

While the LA club has high expectations for relatively inexperienced guards of Talen Horton-Tucker and Kendrick Nunn, Rajon Rondo is a safe, time-tested option.

According to Bleacher Report, Anthony Davis was frustrated about not getting the kind of looks in the post with Dennis Schroder running the point compared to those he received with Rondo a year earlier. Not to mention the fact that Schroder and Davis connected on only one alley-oop attempt during the entirety of last season.

On top of that, a four-time NBA All-Star and three-time league leader in assists, Rondo, is a trusted floor general by both James and Davis. The trio won the title together in 2020, besides, Rondo and Davis were teammates on the 2017-18 New Orleans Pelicans.

All these factors contributed to the Lakers choosing not to re-sign Schroder, who later penned a $5.9 million deal with the Boston Celtics.

Rondo averaged 5.4 points and 4.4 assists in 45 games last season with the Atlanta Hawks and Los Angeles Clippers, while Schroder registered 15.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per 61 contest with the Los Angeles Lakers.
