Acquired five days ago, Jahlil Okafor won't be a Brooklyn Net for long, as the franchise is putting the veteran center on waivers, the team announced Thursday.

Okafor, 25, was acquired by the Nets in a trade with the Detroit Pistons on September 4.

That trade involved a swap of DeAndre Jordan to the Pistons so that the Pistons could buy out his deal and clear a path for Jordan to join the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Nets also received forward Sekou Doumbouya in the deal, while Detroit received $5.78 million as well as second-round picks in 2022, 2024, 2025, and 2027.

Okafor, drafted third overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2015, has averaged 10.4 points and 4.7 rebounds over six seasons with four different teams: the Pistons (2020-21), the New Orleans Pelicans (2018-20), the Nets (2017-18) and the 76ers (2015-17).

He was due to earn $2.13 million this season after signing a two-year, $4 million contract with the Pistons in 2020.
