MoraBanc Andorra announced the signing of 33-year-old Israeli guard Gal Mekel, who has had some ACB experience already, having played in the Spanish league with Gran Canaria and Unicaja Malaga.

Apart from those two ACB clubs, Mekel credits a long career that even took him to the NBA, with the Dallas Mavericks and the New Orleans Pelicans.

The second Israeli player to play in the NBA achieved notoriety in his years at Maccabi Tel Aviv. The former Wichita State graduate wasn't drafted in 2008 but nonetheless participated in a total of 35 contests, averaging 2.3 points over 10 minutes per game.

Mekel is a member of the Israel national basketball team. He was present in 2009, 2011, 2015, and 2017 EuroBasket tournaments. His previous teams include Maccabi Tel Aviv, Nizhny Novgorod, Bennetton Treviso, Red Star Belgrade, and Zenit Saint Petersburg.

The new player of the EuroCup side will be added to the team this week once he is cleared from medical.

"We wanted a player to bring us knowledge of the game and Mekel is a safe bet," Andorra GM Francisco Solana said. "He is a player who knows the Spanish League and the EuroCup and this factor has also helped us think he is the man we need at the moment."

Prior to the official announcement, Andorra gave their fans a hint, posting a photo of Israeli actress Gal Gadot next to former German chancellor Angela Merkel.
