Maccabi hammer Hapoel Jerusalem in Israeli derby

Maccabi Tel Aviv cruised past Hapoel Jerusalem 104-80 (22-16, 30-20, 27-21, 25-23) in the first Israeli derby of the season as Scottie Wilbekin paced the hosts with 18 points.

The American combo guard was the one who helped the hosts get off on a 15-0 run to begin the second quarter, from which Jerusalem was never to recover.

Jalen Reynolds added 15 points as Oz Blayzer and Roman Sorkin each logged 14 points in the win.

Retin Obasohan led Jerusalem with 21 points, Kaiser Gates chipped in 12, while Sean Kilpatrick scored 9 points for the visitors.

By the end of the first quarter, Maccabi were enjoying a 22-16 lead, which later on was increased to 30-16 thanks to a 8-0 run. It was all downhill from there for Hapoel, as the team coached by Sfairopoulos comfortably held the wheel for the rest of the game.

Maccabi widened the gap to 64-39 midway through the third period. Obasohan tried to keep the score respectable as Jerusalem were down 87-69 with six minutes remaining on the clock.

However, the EuroLeague side scored another 17 points in that stretch to close the game at +24 (104-80).
