The Dallas Mavericks (9-4) superstar Luka Doncic suffered an apparent ankle injury during the last minute of last night’s NBA game against the Denver Nuggets (9-5).

With 44 seconds remaining on the clock, Doncic tried to block Austin Rivers’ driving layup when the guard fell from behind into the legs of the basketball wunderkind. The Slovenian superstar limped off to the bench and later went into the locker room.

Mavericks coach Jason Kidd couldn’t comment much on his brightest player’s status after the game.

“Luka walked off on his own power,” Kidd was brief. “I think he got rolled up on his lower left leg, so we’ll see how he feels tomorrow.”

Asked about the situation, Doncic’s teammate Kristaps Porzingis hoped for the best. “I talked to him for a little bit,” Porzingis said after scoring a team-high 29 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

The Latvian center was optimistic: “He’s always just, ‘Hey, I’ll be good. I’ll be good.’ Hopefully, he is good. I don’t think we know yet what it is, but we’re all hoping that he’s healthy and maybe just needs a little bit of time, and he’ll be back soon, hopefully.”

The Mavericks have cancelled Tuesday’s practice as they’re flying to the West Coast for a 4-game stretch against the reigning conference champs, Phoenix Suns, and Los Angeles Clippers.

Doncic has a history of ankle injuries, including missing 11 games during the 2019-20 regular season because of right ankle sprains and dealing with a left ankle sprain during the 2020 playoffs in the NBA bubble.

The Slovenian superstar finished the Mavericks’ victory over Denver with 23 points, 8 rebounds, 11 assists, two steals, and a block in 37 minutes.
