Yogi Ferrell is nearing Panathinaikos's exit door, as the American guard asked to be released in order to find a team that will give him more playing time, Greek outlet SDNA reports.

Five weeks after he joined the Greens, Ferrell asked to have his contract terminated in an indication that the two sides will soon go separate ways.

One of the main reasons why Ferrell chose to go to Europe and play for PAO was his wish to get some playing time and return to the NBA. But the Greek side has recruited eight non-Greek players so far, which means that two of them have to sit out in domestic games. Coach Dimitris Priftis chose to leave out him and Jehyve Floyd, a fact that definitely has played an important role in Ferrell's inability to adjust to the European game and mesh with the team.

According to the same report, the two sides have yet to reach an agreement on the player's release but that seems to be a matter of days. Ferrell is reportedly on the lookout for his next career destination.

The former NBA guard had received a lucrative offer from EuroCup club Lokomotiv Kuban but turned it down in order to play with Panathinaikos in the EuroLeague. However, although he was on the 12-man squad, he didn't play one second in the games against UNICS Kazan and Bayern Munich.
