As reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Joel Embiid's thumb injury will require surgery to address the ligament tear but the Sixers' big man will wait until the end of the season before taking the procedure.
In the past few days, Embiid had stated that his intention was to continue to play through pain if that would have been possible.
The MVP candidate confessed after the loss in Game 4 against the Toronto Raptors that the injury is painful but that he wants to continue to play until the end.

"It's painful but I mean, I want to play", the big man said. "So I'd imagine keep playing and probably do something after the season".
The Philadelphia 76ers are leading 3-1 in the first-round series against the Toronto Raptors and will play Game 5 at home to try to close the series.
