After getting released from Hapoel Jerusalem back in December, Thon Maker is once again looking to join a team outside of the United States.

Matt Logue and Michael Randall from The Herald Sun report that Maker is on the radar of several Australian NBL league teams and is considered one of the most-wanted players ahead of the league's free agency period.

The NBL free agency starts at 01:00 CET this night (May 20th, 09:00 AEST). Each team in the league is allowed to have three foreign players with 11 total players under contract.

Maker made headlines during the start of the season when he joined Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem. As a former NBA player, it was expected for Maker to be one of the main guys on the team. However, things did not work out quite as well.

The Sudanese-Australian center only averaged 2.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1 assist for a measle 1.6 PIR and was ultimately released by the club on December 13th.

According to the article, a few NBL teams had already contacted Thon Maker and his agent after the departure from the Israeli team, but the deal never materialized.

He later joined an NBA G-League club Long Island Nets where Maker averaged 7.8 points and 6.3 rebounds.

Another player that is familiar to European basketball fans, Duop Reath, is also on the free agency list. The former Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade player averaged 15.6 points, 7 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks for the Illawarra Hawks during the last season. Following a strong year, Reath got selected as the team MVP.

Both Reath and Maker have played for the Australian national team. Reath was a member of the NT final roster for the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games. Maker played his last game for Australia in FIBA World Cup 2019 Asia Qualifiers in 2018. He got suspended for three games after getting involved in the infamous brawl against the Philippines national team.
