Zalgiris Kaunas are targeting another guard. According to BasketNews sources, the Lithuanian powerhouse is actively monitoring the situation of Darius Thompson.
Via our sources, Zalgiris first want to solve the issue of the main point guard and then match the shooting guard alongside him.
As it was previously reported, Zalgiris are pursuing Chris Jones for the main point guard spot.
According to sources, the 27-year-old Thompson is more seen in the shooting guard position, taking over the playmaker's reins at times.
Thompson's situation is complicated due to the fact that he signed a two-year contract with Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar last summer and has not yet terminated the deal.
The 1.93-meter American left Krasnodar as soon as Russia started the war in Ukraine. Until then, Thompson averaged 12.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, 6.3 assists, 1.8 steals, and 17.9 PIR over 11 EuroCup matches.
Thompson was fifth in the competition by assists and seventh in terms of PIR.
Thompson arrived at Lokomotiv after two seasons with Happy Casa Brindisi. In both seasons in Italy, the guard also competed in the FIBA Basketball Champions League, where he recorded 12.1 points and 5.2 assists in the 2020-21 campaign.
After NCAA, Thompson began his professional career in the 2018-19 season at ZZ Leiden. During his first year in Europe, Thompson became the MVP of the Dutch League.
