NBA champion and 4-time All-Star Rasheed Wallace was named an assistant coach on Darvin Ham's Los Angeles Lakers staff, according to Shams Charania of the Stadium and the Athletic.

Wallace has spent two seasons together as players on the Detroit Pistons with newly assigned Lakers head coach Darvin Ham, including the 2004 season when they won the NBA championship.

Wallace recently has been rumored as a candidate for the job. This past season Wallace worked at the University of Memphis as an assistant coach to Penny Hardaway. Wallace already worked as an assistant in the league in the 2013-14 season for the Pistons.

In his 16-year NBA career, Wallace played for 6 different teams, but most of his years were with the Portland Trail Blazers (1996-2004) and the Pistons (2004-2009).

Ham, for whom it is the first head coaching gig in the NBA, has replaced Frank Vogel, who worked with the Lakers for the past 3 seasons.
