Bismack Biyombo of the Phoenix Suns met with Pope Francis to talk about his foundation and humanitarian efforts benefiting people in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Pope Francis had canceled his planned trip to Congo because of his bad knee, but Biyombo made sure the meeting took place.

"If he is not feeling good, he can't get on a plane," Biyombo told the Associated Press. "I think if he wouldn't go to Congo, I will bring the Congo to him."

In March, he announced his entire 2021-22 salary ($1.3 million) would go toward building a hospital in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Biyombo is an 11-season NBA veteran, who was drafted seventh overall in 2011 by the Sacramento Kings.

He holds NBA career averages of 5.2 points and 6.1 rebounds over 738 games with the Charlotte Hornets (2011-15, 2018-21), Toronto Raptors (2015-16), Orlando Magic (2016-18), and Suns (2022-present).
