Latvia blows out Lithuania in a friendly game in Riga

The Latvian NT defeated the Lithuanian NT with a strong defensive effort in a friendly game in Riga 70-52 (16-15, 15-16, 19-12, 20-9).

Lithuania had a hard time scoring the ball for most of the game, including scoring only 2 points in the first 6 minutes of the fourth quarter.

Rihards Lomazs converted a 3-point play with 6:36 to go in the fourth quarter to give Latvia a 15-point lead (58-43). After that Latvia never looked back and finished the game comfortably.

Latvia has started the third quarter stronger. After two Andrejs Grazulis' put-back baskets in a row and Toms Leimanis' 3-pointer, Latvia have gained a 10-point advantage (43-33) with 6:19 left in the quarter.

In the first half the teams went toe-to-toe. Neither of the teams managed to get an advantage before the second half and were tied (31:31).

Both teams started the game slowly. Lithuania went scoreless in the first four minutes until Ignas Brazdeikis put Lithuania on board by converting a 3-point play on a driving layup (5:3) with 5:47 to go in the first quarter. It was the first Brazdeikis' points with the national team's uniform.

 

Latvia was led by Andrejs Grazulis with 13 points (6/6 2PT, 0/1 3PT, 1/2 FT), 7 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block, and 20 PIR.

For Lithuania Ignas Brazdeikis was leading the charge with 13 points (3/6 2PT, 2/2 3PT, 1/1 FT), 5 rebounds, 1 assist, and 18 PIR.
