The brightest Latvian basketball star Kristaps Porzingis is set to help his country's national team in the second FIBA window for the World Cup Qualifiers of the summer.

"I'll play in the August window, but unfortunately not in this one," Porzingis said to BasketNews after Latvia crushed Lithuania in a friendly game.

In the upcoming FIBA window, Latvia will face Serbia at home (June 30) and Slovakia away (July 3).

Serbia and Latvia (3-1) sit at the top of Group A and both squads have already qualified for the next group stage of the qualifiers. The next phase will start in August, from 24 to 28.

Latvia will not participate in the EuroBasket 2022.

Porzingis himself is coming off the NBA season, marked by the trades of Latvian athletes. The Dallas Mavericks sent forward/center Kristaps Porzingis to the Washington Wizards in exchange for guards Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans.

The 26-year-old Porzingis, a former Knick, chipped in 22.1 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in 17 games with the Wizards.

"I think my game has improved over the season," Porzingis evaluated the past campaign. "Before that, I was stopped by injuries, COVID-19, and so on. But I'm glad I found myself in Washington. It's a good organization, which helps me a lot.

I think it will be important to start next season well. That's why we have to carry that good emotion to next year."
