Anton Gavel is the new head coach of Ratiopharm Ulm. Both sides reached an agreement on a two-year contract.
The 37-year-old specialist is coming off a successful stint at Ulm's Orange Academy.
The Slovak-German coach replaces Slovenian Jaka Lakovic, who had been successfully navigating Ulm for over three years. Lakovic left the club for Spanish powerhouse Gran Canaria last week.
Gavel is looking forward to his upcoming challenge: "It's special for me. There is a responsibility on both sides. Above all, Ulm once again showed the courage to take risks by choosing me as a young coach. It was similar to Jaka Lakovic. I'm really looking forward to what's to come."
Over many prosperous years as a player at the German top clubs, Brose Bamberg and FC Bayern Munich, Gavel started the coaching path in 2019 and worked with Ulm's Academy.
He is a five-time German league champion as a professional athlete (2010–2013, 2018).
