Jan Vesely leads Czech Republic to their first win in EuroBasket 2022

After two losses, the hosts of Group D, the Czech Republic finally got their first win in the EuroBasket 2022 after defeating the Netherlands.

The Czech Republic national team (1-2) achieved their first victory in the EuroBasket 2022.

Playing in front of their home crowd in Prague, the Czechs beat the Netherlands (0-3) with a final score of 88-80 (24-14, 26-13, 16-30, 22-23).

The Czechs, who dominated from the first minutes of the game, gained a sizeable lead in the first half already. After two quarters, the score was 50-27 in the Czechs favor.

However, in the third quarter, the Netherlands went on a 17-4 run, and after Worthy de Jong's 3-pointer reduced the deficit to 6 points (61-55).

A minute before the end of the fourth quarter, the Netherlands had a deficit of just 3 points (79-76). The decisive moment of the game was with 20 seconds left in the fourth quarter when Martin Peterka hit a 3-pointer to eliminate the Netherlands' chances to win the game (84-78).

Janas Vesely led the Czech Republic with 24 points (9/10 2PT, 6/6 FT), 7 rebounds, and 31 EFF in 32 minutes.

For the Netherlands, Yannick Franke finished the game with 22 points (2/3 2PTS, 3/10 3PT, 9/12 FT), 4 assists, and collected EFF in 23 minutes.
