Luka Doncic scores 36 as Slovenia overcomes Germany's comeback efforts

Luka Doncic dominated once again as Slovenia (3-1) overcame Germany (3-1) 88-80 (21-14, 23-22, 17-19, 27-25).

Doncic finished the game with 36 points on 14-for-25 shooting, made 6 free throws out of 9, grabbed 10 rebounds, and dished out 4 assists for a game-leading 32 PIR.

Slovenia led throughout the entire match but Germany did not let the favorites a big enough lead to take the game away. Dennis Schroder made a couple of triples, the German big men solidly defended in switch situations, and the home team had a chance throughout the entire 40 minutes.

Slovenia came into the fourth quarter leading by 6 (61-55) and had an 11-point lead with just under three minutes to go (82-71) but the Germans did not back down.

Maodo Lo hit a three-pointer, Doncic missed both of his free throws, Andreas Obst hit one more triple, and the teams were separated by just five (82-77). Although Goran Dragic seemed to have iced the game with his floater, Lo made another three-pointer, making the local crowd roar.

However, Franz Wagner missed an open layup, and the Germans had to foul. In the events that followed, Dennis Schroder was charged with an unsportsmanlike foul. The Slovenians converted the free throws and the game was all but over.

All Group B teams have now played four games each. Currently, France, Germany, and Slovenia all have a win-loss record of three-and-one. Slovenia will battle France tomorrow for a possible first spot in the group. If Slovenia loses and Germany wins against Hungary, the Slovenians will finish the first stage third.
