Robert Williams was one of the key players that allowed the Boston Celtics to make it to the NBA Finals last season. The team will most likely have to start this year without him.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski from ESPN, the young center is about to undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his left knee and is expected to need 4-to-6 weeks for recovery.

The procedure is set to take place this week and will keep him minimally out of the Celtics training camp and preseason. The team expects to get its player back early in the regular season.

Regarded as one of the better defensive big men in the league, Williams averaged 10 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 2 assists for the team. According to Cleaning the Glass, he ranked in the 96th percentile in block percentage and was in the 100th percentile in points per shot attempt.

With Williams on the court, the Celtics ranked in the 96th percentile in points allowed per 100 possessions and opponent effective field goal percentage. Williams will earn $10.7 million this upcoming season.
