Alex Tyus officially joins ASVEL to replace injured Joffrey Lauvergne

Alex Tyus signed a deal with LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne until the end of the year. He last played for Real Madrid in the EuroLeague during the 2020-21 season.

With Joffrey Lauvergne suffering a severe injury last week, LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne were looking to strengthen the roster through free agency. The club has announced the newest addition.

According to the official statement, Alex Tyus is joining the team on a deal until the end of the season.

"After Joffrey's injury, we had to react quickly to try to find the best way to strengthen our frontcourt. Alex will bring us his athletic qualities defensively and rebounding in particular, great experience and science of the game which will be invaluable to us," head coach TJ Parker commented.

Tyus has played a total of 196 games in the EuroLeague, with his debut in the competition coming back in 2012-13, when he was a member of Cantu. The following two seasons were spent with Maccabi Tel Aviv.

The last time that EuroLeague fans got to see Tyus was with Real Madrid, which he played for in 2020-21. Across his 196 games in Europe's premier basketball competition, Tyus has averaged 7.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and a PIR of 9.8.
