Having ended 2022 in the best possible way by finally snapping a 12-game losing run at ASVEL, ALBA Berlin made an equally positive start to the New Year by downing co-leader Baskonia, 85-84 (27-20, 27-28, 23-19, 8-17).

Baskonia suffered their first defeat after winning six consecutive EuroLeague games.

The hosts snatched victory from the Baskonia jaws with Maodo Lo's go-ahead two-pointer with two minutes left and the crucial block by Ben Lammers. Markus Howard was blocked when he drove through the lane for a lay-up with 3 seconds remaining

Matt Costello had one more opportunity to win the game for the visitors, but his jumper was off the mark.

ALBA: Jaleen Smith 18, Tamir Blatt 11 (9 AST), Maodo Lo 11, Louis Olinde 11 (7 REB), Johannes Thiemann 10 (6 REB).

Baskonia: Pierre Henry 19 (5 REB, 5 AST), Markus Howard 17, Darius Thompson 15 (5 AST), Rokas Giedraitis 10 (6 REB).
