Jonas Valanciunas hit Taj Gibson with an elbow in the Pelicans-Wizards game and was called for a flagrant-2 foul.

New Orleans Pelicans center Jonas Valanciunas was called for a flagrant-2 foul and ejected after his elbow caught the head of Washington Wizards big man Taj Gibson with 8:03 left in the second quarter.

Valanciunas was in disbelief after the assessment of the episode.

The Lithuanian center finished the game scoreless (0-3 FG, 0-2 FT) with three rebounds, one assist, and two turnovers in nine minutes of action.

Willy Hernangomez and Larry Nance figure shared Valanciunas' vacated minutes.

The Wizards defeated the sliding Pelicans 113-103 on Saturday for their fifth win in a row.

Meanwhile, New Orleans lost its seventh consecutive game. They have lost 12 of their last 15 games, a stretch that has caused them to drop into fifth place in the Western Conference.
