Bradley Beal, who was placed under USA Basketball's health and safety protocols last Wednesday, will have to remain under supervision and will be unable to participate in the Tokyo Olympic Games, USA Basketball announced.

"A roster replacement will be named at a later time," the announcement explained. Backup candidates on the Select Team include Darius Garland of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Keldon Johnson of the San Antonio Spurs, and Saddiq Bey of the Detroit Pistons.

The Washington Wizards point guard was named to the U.S. Olympic Men's Basketball Team on June 28 and participated in the USA Basketball National Team's training camp and exhibition games in Las Vegas. Starting in the USA's first three USA exhibition games, Beal averaged 10.3 points and 4.3 rebounds while playing 29.0 minutes a game.
