Fotis Katsikaris had been on a hot seat for quite some time and his future with Unicaja Malaga was hanging by a thread that has finally been cut.

Despite the recent arrivals of Dejan Kravic and Matt Mooney, the Greek coach's time ran out after another ACB loss for his team, at the hands of Casademont Zaragoza on Saturday night.

The Greek tactician had a contract until 2023. Now, it is up to the club to negotiate his exit in the most satisfactory way for both parties.

Katsikaris arrived in January 2021 after the dismissal of Luis Casimiro, who later on took over Greek side Promitheas Patras. The 52-year-old leaves Unicaja with a 21-27 balance.

Unicaja are traveling this Monday to Ukraine to face Prometey for the BCL's TOP 16. Former assistant coach Angel Sanchez-Cañete will be the one sitting on the bench in that game, while the Board of Directors will be looking for a replacement.

Right now, Unicaja Malaga are still in a deep crisis. The team from Andalusia currently stands at 7-11 in the ACB and is already out of the upcoming Copa del Rey to be played in Granada.
