Dennis Schroder put on an impressive offensive display to power Germany (5-1) past Poland (2-4) 93-83 (19-19, 21-17, 17-20, 36-27) in the 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers

With 3 minutes to go, Poland was leading 75-71 when Schroder was fouled while shooting a three-pointer. The guard made all three free throws to pull Germany within one. Although Christian Sengfelder made a tough layup to put the home team on top, Slaughter answered with a triple on the other side of the court.

However, it was Schroder's time during the next two possessions. The NBA guard immediately answered with a three-pointer of his own. Later, A.J. Slaughter threw an ill-advised pass, and Germany quickly capitalized with another Schroder triple to take a four-point lead (82-78).

Slaughter pulled Poland within 2 making both of his free throws but then Johannes Voigtmann made a tough step-back triple to solidify the lead for Germany (87-82). Clutch free throws by Schroder clinched the win for Germany.

Schroder finished the game with a whopping 38 points, which set a new all-time European Qualifiers record, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and a steal, making 11 out of 12 free throws for 32 PIR.

A.J. Slaughter was the undisputed leader on the Polish team with 32 points,  on 11-for-17 shooting, making 8 threes out of 13 for 30 PIR.

The German national team finished the first round of World Cup Qualifiers in first place in Group D with 5 wins out of a possible 6. With the loss, Poland was eliminated from the competition due to having a worse point difference in the games both against Israel and Estonia.
