Greece will apply to host the upcoming FIBA Basketball Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
According to a report by Tolis Kotzias from SDNA.gr, the Hellenic Basketball Federation (HBF) has applied to become the host of the 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
In the 2023 FIBA World Cup, the federation president, Vangelis Liolios, had previously noted his desire to have the tournament in Greece.
As SDNA notes, the desire may be realized, as the HBF has collected the necessary funds to host this tournament, which is reportedly around €2.5 million.
Greece has until November to apply for the host status. If successful, the bid could be an important boost to Greece, who will compete for a spot in Paris.
In total, four Olympic Qualifying Tournaments will be held, and only the winners will receive the last four tickets to the upcoming Paris Olympics.
