Ioannis Papapetrou faces at least a three-month sideline after left knee surgery.
Despite more optimistic early reports, Panathinaikos Athens forward Ioannis Papapetrou will be sidelined from basketball for a minimum of three months, as reported by SDNA. Papapetrou is set to undergo surgery to address a left knee problem.
Panathinaikos officials have already contacted the doctor in Qatar who will perform the operation, and they've been informed about the expected duration of Papapetrou's absence.
This means the Greek forward will not be able to play again in 2023. His return to action is anticipated in the first few months of 2024.
Panathinaikos Athens / Schedule
The genesis of Papapetrou's current situation can be traced back to his participation in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, where the knee issue was aggravated.
Despite the setback, the 29-year-old managed to play in one EuroLeague game this season. In a 78-71 victory against FC Bayern Munich, he contributed 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 10 PIR during 24 minutes of action.
