Rihards Lomazs officially joins Virtus Bologna

Rihards Lomazs reunites with head coach Luca Banchi at Virtus. He has signed a deal that rung through the end of the 2023-24 season.

Following their successful qualification for the FIBA World Cup 2023, Latvian national team guard Rihards Lomazs and head coach Luca Banchi are set to reunite at Virtus Segafredo Bologna.

Lomazs joins the Italian powerhouse on a deal that runs through the end of the season. 

His journey this season began with Yukatel Merkezefendi Belediyesi Basket in Turkey, where the 27-year-old guard averaged 14.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 10.1 PIR in the domestic league.

Lomazs also played a crucial role in the Latvian national team's success during the 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualification windows, contributing with averages of 15.6 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game.

This move comes as Lomazs steps into the shoes of Jaleen Smith, who recently departed Virtus to join Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade.

Lomazs' other stints outside of Latvia include time with ASVEL, BG Gottingen, Zaragoza, and Baskets Oldenburg.

Meanwhile, Virtus have emerged as a pleasant surprise in the EuroLeague this season, securing 12 victories and currently holding the second position in the league standings.
