Virtus Bologna had been looking for Devontae Cacok's replacement and Ante Zizic will fill in the position.
Just a few minutes after Anadolu Efes Istanbul released Ante Zizic, Virtus Segafredo Bologna officially announced their agreement with the player.
The deal runs through 30 June 2026.
The Croatian international, 26, has spent the two last seasons with Anadolu Efes Istanbul, following another two-year stint with Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv. Now, Zizic will be eligible to make his debut with the Italian side in Round 18.
Virtus Bologna currently sit at the second place in the EuroLeague table with a record of 12 wins and 5 losses. However, they returned from Belgrade with some worrisome news regarding Devontae Cacok.
The American big man suffered a knee injury during the game against Partizan Mozzart Bet, and he's now expected to miss several months of action. That development paved the way for one more signing, after the addition of Latvian guard Rihards Lomazs.
Zizic was selected 23rd overall by the Boston Celtics in the 2016 NBA draft. However, he played all of his 121 NBA games with the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he averaged 6.0 points and 3.9 rebounds in 113 regular season contests over three seasons (2017-2020).
In late November 2023, Zizic suffered a muscle injury in his right calf, and had to sit out for 3 weeks and 4 EuroLeague rounds.
Up to that point, he averaged 8.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 11.3 PIR per game in 10 EuroLeague appearances.
However, as soon as he came back, he lost his place in coach Erdem Can's rotation, as his average playing time clocked in at roughly 4 minutes. Zizic has only scored one basket (2 points) since he returned to the court.
