Thompkins is entering the final stage of rehab, head coach Ioannis Sfairopoulos indicated on Wednesday. The player's contract has been extended the last day before the deadline.
After signing a one-month deal with the club, Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade's forward Trey Thompkins will remain with the team.
The player's deal has been extended, multiple Serbian outlets report. Crvena Zvezda confirmed the reports the next day, announcing the deal has been extended for an additional month.
The only way it can be extended further is to convert it to a full contract, the EuroLeague Framework Agreement (EFA) indicates.
The team's head coach Ioannis Sfairopoulos said on Wednesday that Thompkins was entering the final stages of his rehab and would debut for the club in the future.
"Trey is in the last part of his rehabilitation. We go day-by-day. He started practicing some movements individually. The second phase will be to practice harder individually, then to get into the team, and then practice with the team to start to play five-on-five. After five-on-five, he will be ready for the games. It's a procedure, we don't know how it will take, but we are in the last phase. We expect he will be back in a few periods," Sfairopoulos told the media before the departure for the game against AS Monaco.
