Sergio Scariolo is expected to sign a contract extension with Spain's national team until 2028.
Sergio Scariolo is expected to remain the Spanish national team's head coach for the foreseeable future.
Juan Jimenez from AS reports that the Italian tactician will remain the national team coach until 2028. That means Scariolo will coach Spain in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles if La Roja qualifies for it, of course.
Jimenez adds that the only way the extension with Scariolo will be annulled is if Elisa Aguilar doesn't get re-elected as the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) president. However, such a scenario is seen as very unlikely.
Scariolo coached Spain from 2009 to 2012. He returned to the national team in 2015 and has been the coach since then.
With Spain, Scariolo has four EuroBasket gold medals (2009, 2011, 2015, 2022), one World Cup gold medal (2019), one silver (2012) and bronze medal (2016) in the Olympic Games, and one bronze medal in the EuroBasket (2017).
