His family situation is limiting his options to sign with a new team every year, Hanga admitted. He wants to stay in Belgrade and hopes Crvena Zvezda can achieve the triple crown.
As Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade achieved a historic sweep in the ABA League, Adam Hanga was sidelined with an injury yet again.
"With Hanga, he got hit with an elbow, his metacarpal bone, and broke it. These are unlucky injuries," Crvena Zvezda's head coach Ioannis Sfairopoulos told in an interview with BasketNews before the series.
Hanga missed a chunk of games early in the season as well after dealing with a knee injury.
"According to the X-rays, I was only given a fixation bandage, but at the three-week check-up, it turned out that the bones did not fuse well, so last Thursday, I still had to go under the knife," Hanga told Nemzeti Sport. "Since then, the cast has been removed, ugly screws are sticking out of my hand, but in principle, I can start the rehabilitation in four weeks."
It was the first sweep in the ABA League Finals since the 2016-17 season when Crvena Zvezda did it against Cedevita. It was also the first time a Zeljko Obradovic-coached team got swept in the finals since 1999, according to Basketball Sphere.
"With this success, it's certain that we can start in the EuroLeague next year, and in addition, we beat our archrival Partizan 3-0 in the final, which has never happened before. The only thing left is the Serbian championship, and then Zvezda can have the triple crown," Hanga said.
Hanga signed a 1+1 contract with Crvena Zvezda last summer. The player has until July 15th to exercise his option in the deal.
In his first year with the red-and-whites, Hanga averaged 8 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.4 assists for 8.2 PIR in the EuroLeague. He often had to serve as a point guard at one point late in the season due to a multitude of injuries in the backcourt.
"For now, nothing is concrete, but as a father of three, my primary goal is to stay here in Belgrade," Hanga said. "With my family, I can't transfer to a new EuroLeague team every year. Now, my goal is to get a two-year contract because I definitely want to play at the highest level for that long."
