BasketNews sources indicate about an expectation within the Japan B League that the 22-year-old, 2.18-meter big man is close to joining the Koshigaya Alphas.
Sotto has long been considered the biggest prospect in the basketball-crazy country of the Philippines, which had an estimated population of 117 million in 2023.
Sotto appeared in 34 B League games last season, averaging 12.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.1 blocked shots for Yokohama B-Corsairs.
In his best game of the season, Sotto scored 28 points on 12 of 15 shooting and grabbed 6 rebounds against the semifinalists Alvark Tokyo.
From February to April, he had a 16-game stretch where he averaged 17.0 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
Koshigaya played in the B2 League last season but made it to the finals and has been promoted to the top Japanese division.
Sotto is also gearing up to help the Philippines qualify for the Paris Olympic Games.
From July 2 to 7, Gilas Pilipinas will compete in a qualification tournament in Riga, where they will face Latvia, Georgia, Brazil, Cameroon, and Montenegro.
