Three more players have been discarded from Spain's squad ahead of the OQT in Valencia, as Lorenzo Brown is soon expected to join them for training camp.
The initial list of 22 names drawn up by Sergio Scariolo has been reduced to 14 after the Italian tactician decided to leave center Yankuba Sima and forwards Santi Yusta and Miquel Salvo out of Spain's squad ahead of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Valencia (2-7 July).
Scariolo should make two more discards before making the final list of 12 players for the tournament.
The three above-mentioned players add their names to those of point guard Sergi Garcia, center Fran Guerra, guard Josep Puerto and forward Edgar Vicedo, who the Italian coach ruled out on June 15.
Spain's training camp kicked off in Madrid last Monday (June 17), with the presence of Santi Aldama (Memphis Grizzlies) and Usman Garuba (Golden State Warriors), while those who finished the season later than others - Real Madrid's Alberto Abalde, Rudy Fernandez and Sergio Llull and Panathinaikos' Juancho Hernangomez- joined in later. However, Abalde had to leave the group due to injury, forcing Scariolo to keep young forward Sergio De Larrea during training camp.
In this Tuesday's friendly against Italy at the WiZink Center, the Italian coach will not be able to count on point guard Lorenzo Brown who is carrying out the mandatory medical tests with his new team, Panathinaikos. As soon as he's done with medicals and announced by the EuroLeague champs, Brown will travel to Madrid.
