Tony Parker became the first French athlete whose national team jersey was retired.
Tony Parker received the honor that no other French athlete has ever gotten - his national team jersey was retired.
Parker's no. 9 blue jersey was lifted into the rafters of the LDLC Arena in Décines-Charpieu after the conclusion of the friendly game between France and Serbia.
Alongside his partner Agathe Teyssier and his two kids, Parker watched as thousands in attendance applauded the French basketball legend.
"This is the first time in history in France, in all team sports combined. So, obviously, when I was told the news last summer, I was surprised. It's something crazy and even more so to do it in Lyon," Parker said the day before the ceremony.
Parker has won four medals with the French national team - a EuroBasket gold in 2013, silver in 2011, and bronze in 2005 and 2015.
Parker is now the president of LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, a EuroLeague club that plays in the LDLC Arena.
