Australia lost its second game in the Paris 2024 Olympics against Canada83-93, complicating its situation in Group A ahead of its final match against Greece.

The Boomers' head coach, Brian Goorjian, acknowledged the challenge they faced on Tuesday, describing Canada as one of the best teams in the world. He likened them to Team USA, emphasizing their up-tempo style and intense pressure on the ball.

"To me, they're [Canada] a version of Team USA," Goorjian said after the loss. "They play differently than the Europeans and than what we played against Spain. There's a lot more one-on-one, there's a lot more spread game, a lot more going at the weak defender and bringing them to the on-ball and spread.

"Then the physicality defensively was a level that we haven't played against so far on all of these teams that we've played to date. Multiple guys are coming in that can put heat and pressure on the ball. And I thought that was the difference in the game tonight," he added.

The Boomers will face Greece and Giannis Antetokounmpo on Friday, August 2, needing a victory to secure a guaranteed spot in the quarterfinals.

Though Greece is 0-2 in the Olympics, Giannis has delivered two monstrous performances with 34 points against Canada and 27 points and 11 rebounds against Spain.

"In this one, you're playing the best athlete in the world and one of the best players in the world," Goorjian said about the upcoming duel. "And he's around the basket and off the elbows, which is something we haven't faced before.

"The good thing about the way this tournament is you get two games in between the next one, but I just made sure that the guys understood when they leave the dressing room -- it's not a game, it's a tournament. And our future in Paris lies in this upcoming game," the coach concluded.
