The New Zealand Basketball Federation (BBNZ) parted ways with head coach Pero Cameron on August 8th. They're searching for his successor in an unconventional way.
Usually, basketball federations either have special committees that appoint the next head coach or call a special meeting to determine the person who will lead the national team.
The New Zealand Federation, however, has released a job application ad, welcoming people to apply to be the next head coach.
The employment status is described as part-time, and the coach would serve from October 7, 2024, until September 2028.
The ideal candidate is said to possess "confidence and credibility to operate at a leadership and management level, combined with a strong strategic outlook, excellent problem-solving abilities, and decision-making skills."
Among others, BBNZ has listed the requirements for the job, such as:
- Expertise in coaching technical & tactical skills to 5×5 athletes, with a minimum experience of serving as an assistant coach at the High-Performance level within ANBL, NBA, or EuroLeague, or as a proven head coach in the New Zealand NBL, or at an international senior level in 5×5 basketball
- Experience dealing with all mediums of media
- Proficient in strategic and operational planning for campaign plans related to senior 5×5 basketball
- Strong strategic outlook, excellent problem-solving skills, and decision-making skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communications (including strong presentation skills & report writing), and influencing skills.
The deadline for submitting applications is August 23rd, 2024. The full application can be found here.
