Shaquille O'Neal predicts that Team USA will fail to win gold at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, citing the rise of European teams and the absence of key players like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry.

NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal believes Team USA's dominance in the Olympics will come to an end at the Los Angeles 2028 Games.

"20 years ago, the USA was light years ahead of the other countries. But that has changed. Europe has caught up and is only slightly behind, but it will soon overtake the USA," Shaq said in an interview with Dirk Schlickmann of Sport Bild. "I am sure that the USA will not win gold at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles."

The 52-year-old went on to explain his reasoning.

"LeBron James will no longer play, nor will Kevin Durant and Steph Curry. Joel Embiid will probably no longer be there, either. Then, the supremacy will be over," O'Neal stated. "The European teams are really good: Croatia, Serbia, even Germany. You can win gold in 2028."

This past summer, Team USA won their fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal in Paris, though they had a close call in the semifinals against Serbia and Nikola Jokic. Trailing by 13 points heading into the fourth quarter, the trio of LeBron, Durant, and Curry powered a comeback, securing a 95-91 victory.

Curry also delivered a clutch masterpiece in the final, leading Team USA to a 98-87 win over host France.

It most likely marked the final Olympics for both Curry and James, though Durant has not ruled out competing in Los Angeles. KD will be 39 when the 2028 Games take place.
