Even though Baskonia claimed Luca Vildoza should pay the full €2 million of his termination clause for leaving the club in May 2021, the High Court of Justice of the Basque Country turned down the Spanish club's request.
The High Court of Justice of the Basque Country has rejected the appeal filed by Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz, asking Luca Vildoza to pay €1 million in addition to the €1 million the player was ordered to pay his former club last January.
Vildoza left Baskonia unilaterally in May 2021 to join the New York Knicks. Even though he never played with the franchise, the Basque club claimed that the Argentinian guard should pay them a total of €2 million which corresponded to the entire amount stated in the contract's termination clause. Hence, Baskonia filed an appeal for the payment of another million, a claim that has now been rejected, according to MARCA's Nacho Duque.
Baskonia retained the rights to Vildoza and tried to block his signing by Crvena Zvezda when the player was released from the NBA and decided to return to Europe. The club even asked the EuroLeague to prevent the transfer from taking place, asking for the payment of the full €2 million of his clause. Eventually, Vildoza will only have to pay one half of that amount.
