Following his team's Euroleague Round 21 loss to FC Barcelona 82-73, Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens head coach Ergin Ataman claimed that a new record of seven offensive fouls were called against the Greek squad.

"You can check it out," he said.

He added that the second half was more like an American football than basketball.

Give Me Control has taken Ataman up on his offer – and checked if there were indeed seven offensive fouls called against his team.

This week's column also looks at to what extent the second half – as well as the entire game – had moments on both ends when it looked more like American football than basketball.

Give Me Control takes a deep dive into this game's officiating, including illegal screens, act of shooting fouls, and whether or not Barcelona's Dario Brizuela did an impersonation of the NBA's James Harden.

Were there really seven offensive fouls called against Panathinaikos in their Round 21 loss to Barcelona, as Ergin Ataman claimed?

Give Me Control reviewed the entire game, and the answer is...

Comments:

Thanks, Todd! Great analysis - what do you think would be the best way to handle the game like that? For refs to call every single illegal screen or push? that would add at least 20 calls to the game with many calls already.

We talk a lot about the flow of the game - wouldn't all the calls kill that flow?

Also I feel like those illegal screen calls have become more frequent in the last few years - is it because game got so much faster and players have no time to get set or do we just look at them more often? Do you know if there is some kind of emphasis on those calls from refs?
