Holder of the French passport since November 2016, Sekou Doumbouya has never played with France men's team. At the age of 24, the former NBA forward is likely to choose to represent his native country of Guinea.
Born in Conakry in 2000, Sekou Doumbouya is of Guinean origin and spent the first nine years of his life there, before emigrating to Fleury-les-Aubrais in France.
The 24-year-old small forward, who was selected with the 15th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons, has never played with France men's team. A holder of the French passport since November 2016, Doumbouya won the European U18 championship with Les Bleus.
However, he could soon choose to play for Guinea, as the country's basketball federation has been trying to recruit him for several months - and the recent qualification for AfroBasket 2025 is likely to be the determining factor. Always attached to his native country, Doumbouya had also appeared on the evening of the draft with the Guinean flag on his shoulders.
