The EuroLeague future for the next season remains uncertain, and ALBA Berlin sports director Himar Ojeda did not provide much clarity during his recent appearance on the Dyn Timeout podcast.

"Right now, there's no concrete decision by the EuroLeague," Ojeda said when discussing ALBA's future in the league.

"I think this is our 5th or 6th year in the EuroLeague. And if I'm not wrong, 3 years we finished higher in the standings than Panathinaikos, and I didn't hear the comments or the article saying, 'Panathinaikos need to be more competitive. They should be out of the league.' It was none of that, and I think it's not fair because people know which weapons we are fighting," the executive went on to say.

On Tuesday, Partizan president Ostoja Mijailovic announced that the Serbian club is "one step away" from a multi-year deal with EuroLeague.

The league is anticipated to expand to 20 teams next season; however, there is no certainty regarding which teams will be affected. It's still unclear whether the expansion will involve teams losing their spots in the EuroLeague or if new teams will be added to the league.

EuroLeague CEO Paulius Motiejunas has repeatedly said that Berlin is an important market for the EuroLeague even though the team struggles to be competitive. This season, ALBA hold the 5-24 record and are dead last in the EuroLeague standings.

Last season, they also finished last with a 5-29 record. The German team has been competing in the round-robin format of the EuroLeague since the 2019-20 season.

To prove Ojeda's words, ALBA indeed finished higher than PAO for three consecutive EuroLeague seasons: from 2020-21 to 2022-23.
