After disagreements with FC Barcelona, superstar forward Nikola Mirotic is arguably the most sought-after player in the European transfer market this offseason. EA7 Emporio Armani Milan were one of the clubs linked with the Montenegrin player.

Several weeks ago, a report came out that the Italian club already has a deal in place with Mirotic. However, BasketNews sources have denied the information. Now, Milan's head coach Ettore Messina admitted that the club is unlikely to sign the superstar.

"Nikola Mirotic is one of the top five players in Europe right now. His accolades and his contract prove it. We cannot compete with the clubs that have put themselves on the waiting list at this moment," Messina told during Basket-on-ER show. "Olympiacos, if Vezenkov leaves, will have money left from Vezenkov's contract and money they could use from the Sacramento Kings buyout. They could absolutely make an offer at the level of what Barcelona paid."

At the moment, Mirotic still has to work the situation out with Barca regarding his deal with the club. The organization faces a swift deadline in order not to pay the player in full.

"Efes, Fenerbahce, Panathinaikos who suddenly seem to have found a great desire to spend... We're talking about other things," Messina named the teams his thinks Milan can't compete with. "Then, I think it's essential to see how Mirotic and his agents resolve the issue of his two-year contract with Barcelona."

"I really don't think he can be a target for a club as important as ours. We can't compete with Efes and Fenerbahce not only for Mirotic but [we can't also compete] with two football clubs Barcelona and Real Madrid," he concluded.
