The Charlotte Hornets have waived their former first-round pick, Kai Jones, as reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Jones sparked controversy in September with a series of unusual incidents. Initially, he exhibited peculiar behavior during an Instagram Live session, appearing incoherent at times, with the walls of his room seemingly covered in crayon scribbles.
Subsequently, Jones took to Instagram to openly criticize teammates such as Nick Richards and Mark Williams. Additionally, he made a bold claim on X (formerly Twitter), asserting that he would unequivocally beat LeBron James in a one-on-one matchup.
In a recent X post, Jones officially declared his trade request from the organization.
Last season, Jones averaged 3.4 points and 2.7 rebounds per game in 12 minutes of playing time.
