NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal praised Houston Rockets center Alperen Sengun, who is playing exceedingly well this year.
Shaquille O'Neal, who dominated the NBA for many years as a center and continues to be involved in basketball as a commentator, recently had high praise to give to Alperen Sengun of the Houston Rockets.
In TNT's Postgame Show, the former player lavished praise on the Turkish center, who recently had impressive individual performances against the San Antonio Spurs and the Los Angeles Clippers.
"Because I played against greats like Tim Duncan, you appreciate guys that are fundamentally sound. I played with talent and brute strength. Tim Duncan [had] a little strength, but he [was] extremely, fundamentally sound," Shaq began. "This kid [Alperen Sengun] is fundamentally sound. He has a little bit of flair with him."
"Love the way he plays. I respect his game... He shot that three like he knew what he was doing," Shaq continued. "And I said the name earlier; he reminds me of a young Pau Gasol because Pau Gasol had great fundamental also. I like this kid," the legend said.
Shaq's remarks come after Sengun's two career matches. The center had a career-high 45 points, 16 rebounds, 3 assists, and 5 steals against the San Antonio Spurs, establishing dominance over Victor Wembanyama.
He then broke his assists record in a loss versus the Los Angeles Clippers. He accumulated 23 points, 19 rebounds, and 14 assists, which was not enough for the win.
This year, Sengun is averaging 21.3 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 5 assists so far in his best season since arriving in the 2021-22 season.
