Former player and current commentator J. J. Redick is slated to become the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.
Major news has broken out as J. J. Redick will become the new coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the former player and current commentator has said yes to a four-year contract.
Rob Pelinka, the vice president of basketball operations and general manager of the Lakers, offered the job to Redick earlier today. Wojnarowski also states that Redick has already started building his staff.
Apparently, Pelinka appreciated Redick's "basketball IQ" and "ability to connect with players." The senior executive also believes that the former player will overcome the steep learning curve by putting together an experienced coaching staff.
The Lakers head coach race had become one of the hottest topics this summer. While other candidates like James Borrego and Dan Hurley were also in the running, Redick has always been in the running and eventually prevailed.
