Dallas Mavericks traded Tim Hardaway Jr. and three second-round picks to the Detroit Pistons for Quentin Grimes.
Dallas Mavericks have traded Tim Hardaway Jr. and three second-round picks to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Quentin Grimes, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
The Mavericks are sending a 2025 second-round pick via Toronto and two 2028 second-round picks as part of the deal.
Detroit is using its cap space to acquire contracts in exchange for future draft picks, similar to what Charlotte did on Thursday. Despite this trade, the Pistons still have $50 million in cap space to continue this strategy.
Meanwhile, Tim MacMahon of ESPN reports that this move allows the Mavs to offer a significant portion of their $12.9 million nontaxpayer midlevel exception to Derrick Jones Jr. Mavericks GM Nico Harrison has stated that re-signing Jones is a top priority this offseason.
Hardaway Jr., 32, spent the last six seasons with the Mavericks after arriving from the New York Knicks in the Kristaps Porzingis trade in January 2019. He re-signed with Dallas on a four-year, $75 million contract, which runs through next season. Last season, Hardaway averaged 14.4 points and 3.2 rebounds per game over 79 games.
Quentin Grimes, 24, joined the Pistons via a trade with the Knicks but played only six games with Detroit due to injury.
