New Orleans Pelicans are bolstering their backcourt by acquiring Dejounte Murray from the Atlanta Hawks, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
In exchange, the Pelicans are sending two first-round picks -- a 2025 selection via the Los Angeles Lakers and a 2027 selection (the least favorable between the Milwaukee Bucks and their own) -- to the Hawks.
Additionally, forwards Larry Nance Jr. and E.J. Liddell, along with guard Dyson Daniels, are heading to Atlanta.
Hawks get:
- Larry Nance Jr.
- Dyson Daniels
- 2025 first-round pick (via Lakers)
- 2027 first-round pick (via Bucks/Pelicans)
Pelicans receive:
- Dejounte Murray
Murray, 27, averaged a career-high 22.5 points with 6.4 assists this past season. Over seven NBA seasons, including five with the San Antonio Spurs, he has averaged 15.4 points.
Atlanta initially acquired Murray in 2022, sending three first-round picks to the Spurs with hopes of building a formidable backcourt alongside Trae Young.
However, despite their scoring abilities, the duo failed to achieve playoff success, with the Hawks finishing 10th in the Eastern Conference at 36-46 this past season and not winning a playoff series since their 2021 Eastern Conference Finals appearance.
Murray signed a four-year, $114 million extension with Atlanta last offseason, which will start next year. He is set to make $25.3 million next season, with a player option for $31.3 million in 2027-28.
Daniels, the No. 8 pick in the 2022 NBA draft, has shown defensive promise, averaging 1.4 steals in just 22.3 minutes per game this past season. He also posted 5.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game in 2023-24.
Nance, who arrived in New Orleans as part of the CJ McCollum trade at the 2022 trade deadline, battled injuries throughout his time there, averaging 5.7 points and 5.0 rebounds.
Liddell, a standout at Ohio State, missed the 2022-23 season due to knee ligament surgery but appeared in eight games this past campaign for New Orleans.
