The Sixers saw their only healthy star, Tyrese Maxey, leave a preseason friendly game with a problem in the thumb of his right hand.
During the Philadelphia 76ers game against the Orlando Magic on Friday night, Tyrese Maxey sustained an injury to his right thumb after fouling Paolo Banchero less than two minutes into the game.
Maxey would continue to hold his hand for several minutes before being subbed by Kyle Lowry. The information coming from the franchise was that Maxey is dealing with a right thumb contusion and he was hence ruled out for the rest of the game.
The Sixers are dealing with injury woes. Joel Embiid did not play in the preseason to protect his right knee, while Paul George is doubtful for the season opener because of a hyperextension in his left knee.

Even though Maxey is likely to be available for the NBA regular season opener on Wednesday, Sixers' head coach Nick Nurse told media members that injuries can happen at any given moment, regardless of how much (or how little) time a player has spent on the court.
"I mean, they’re a couple of freak injuries," he said. "It's not because they're playing too many minutes or any of that kind of stuff. So just unlucky, and hopefully get all that unluckiness out of the way and move forward."
In the 2023-24 season, Maxey averaged 25.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 6.2 assists on 37.3% 3PT shooting in 38 minutes. His performances led the Sixers to the decision to offer him a five-year contract worth $203 million in the summer.
